"One of the most overused cliches in sport is that 90 percent of performance is mental....In reality, sport is 100 percent mental. Our thoughts influence our actions and our actions influence our thoughts. This never-ending cycle often leads athletes and coaches to attribute poor performance in practice and competition to thinking too much." - By Doug Gardner, Ed.D.
As your "Muscle Liason", let's replace SPORT with RECOVERY.
When we speak with our clients before, during or after a session about how to properly stretch, it's amazing to watch their eyes glaze over in utter confusion.
In order for a stretch to be effective, we have to be engaged WITH the stretch. We cannot COMMAND the stretch.
There is no more direct way to put muscles into a Taurean Stubborn state than to COMMAND them.
Use a basic stretching routine and LIVE there for a bit. Take some active breaths (in through your nose and exhale out of your mouth)Take 5 mins to disconnect and FEEL.
I know I know. Feelings are for wimps. 😒
But seriously, feel what your muscles are telling you. Do they want you to move to the next series or are they REALLY enjoying the depth of the movement?
Bridge the gap between your mind and body.
